Painted Blue Furniture Makeovers

Guess what my all-time favorite furniture color is? Blue! While I love painting in all colors, blues are my go-to when I feel like I need a reset and to get back to my roots. They always make me happy! But blues can be tricky and will sometimes look much different than you think on a piece. I tend to stay away from dusty or country-style medium-toned blues – those aren’t my favorite. But a beautiful light coastal blue or a deep and saturated navy? Yes!! In this post, I share some of my favorite painted blue furniture makeovers and my favorite blue paint colors. I hope they inspire you to paint blue!
1. Navy Blue Sideboard

Let’s start with my all-time favorite navy – Stars at Night by Melange Paints. I have tried so many navy paints over the years, and for me, this is the perfect blend. Dark but not too dark, just enough blue, and not too much gray. This navy sideboard makeover features a painted bottom, a restained wood top, and the original hardware.
2. Lane Cedar Chest

If you are looking for a navy that is not quite as dark, Classic Navy by Melange Paints may be just the thing. A bit brighter, but definitely still navy. If you have a space with less light – this will give you that navy feel and isn’t too dark. Find the details on this painted cedar chest here!
3. Pine Dresser Makeover

This makeover really shows off the power of paint! No more pine country feel with this sophisticated color – Silky Blue by Melange Paints. It’s not quite dark enough to be considered a navy. This one has some gray undertones to it and is just a classy color overall. Feels like a Victorian blue to me. This makeover is one of several featured in my post on how to refinish pine furniture.
4. Vagabond

This is the darkest blue that I’ve used, Vagabond Blue by Melange Paints. Depending on your lighting it may look almost black, but it is a sophisticated color that will add a touch of elegance to your space.
5. Light Blue Dresser

Alright, time to take a look at some lighter shades! If you are looking for a classic baby blue, this is it. Traveler Blue by Melange Paints. There is a bit of gray in it to keep it classic and not too country farmhouse.
6. Coastal Nightstands

While I love the look of Traveler Blue, for these nightstands I really wanted an almost white, Serena and Lily-inspired coastal look. So I took some Sonnet White and mixed it in with the Traveler Blue (1 part Sonnet to 2 parts Traveler). For me, it is the perfect coastal blue and I’ve used this combination several times since trying it on this project.
7. Small Blue Credenza

This was such a fun project! These dated pieces of furniture take on a whole new life with some paint. This color, called Whippoorwill’s Call by Melange Paints, is a pale eggshell blue with just a touch of green undertones.
8. Paint Dipped Dresser

I just love how this dusty blue looks with the raw wood on this dipped-look dresser. Devotee by Melange Paints is a soft blue-gray and will bring just that slight touch of color to your space. This makeover is one of several featured in my post on how to create a paint dipped look.
Summary
If you’re a blue lover like me, I hope this post showcasing my favorite painted blue furniture makeovers provides you with some ideas and inspiration. And if you have your own favorite blue, I’d love to hear what it is! Happy painting!
